How to protect water pumps and roof tanks in Jordan
Dry running and voltage drops burn out pumps every summer. Two small DIN rail relays prevent most of these failures.
In many Jordanian buildings the water pump works hard: it fills the roof tank from the ground tank or the well, often several times a day. Two problems destroy most pumps, and both are easy to prevent in the control panel.
1. Dry running
When the ground tank is empty, the pump keeps spinning without water. It overheats within minutes and the seal or motor fails. A level relay watches the water with small probes. It lets the pump run only while there is water in the lower tank, and stops it when the roof tank is full.
ELKO EP's level relay fits on a 35 mm DIN rail and works with simple probes hung in the tank. There is also a ready set that includes the level switch and an installation contactor for the pump.
2. Voltage drops and lost phases
Low voltage, a missing phase or the wrong phase sequence make a three-phase motor draw too much current and burn. A voltage monitoring relay disconnects the pump the moment the supply goes out of range, and reconnects it when the supply is healthy again.
3. Run it on a schedule
If water arrives on certain days only, a digital time switch can run the pump in those hours, and a time relay can add a delay so the pump does not restart the instant power returns.
What to do next
- Check whether your pump is single-phase or three-phase.
- Note the motor power and how many tanks you have.
- Send us a photo of the panel. Our engineers will suggest the right relays and wiring.
